Separations Experiment
The following buttons will take you through the Separations Experiment. First an unknown sample containing an organic acid, base and a neutral is dissolved in ether. After this is done, the acid is extracted with a 5% sodium bicarbonate solution. The remaining organic layer which should contain the neutral and base is than extracted with 5% HCl. The acid, base and neutral are now separated. Each portion is then neutralized and the organic acid, base and neutral are isolated.
